Hard to believe

In today's day and age I find it hard to believe that people still subscribe to the insanity of religious beliefs. I have argued that the only reason that Christianity is what it is today was mainly because it was accepted by the emperor Constantine of the Roman empire. Before that Christianity was just one of many religious sects that were prevalent all over Rome.

With the conversion of Constantine and the backing of the Roman empire Christianity gained the one thing that was more valuable than any gospel. They gained political power and with that power ultimate control. With the rise of Christianity along with the Roman empire came what we termed the dark ages. The church misused that power to promulgate their faith and make their faith law. Hence the various inquisitions, and crusades that followed. Anyone who opposed the church was breaking the law and in most cases were punished by death.

Coerced confessions of faith were made by those that were imprisoned for crimes against the church by means of physical torture. After the confessions were obtained the church then said hat they had to free the soul from the corrupt bodies they inhabited and so once a confession was gained usually it was followed by the execution of the accused. Christianity gained its foothold on the world not because of its doctrines and teachings or its truths, but rather through fear and coercion of the masses. This faith that we know of so well broke free from the realm of myth from whence it came and is now an accepted truth by millions the world over.

I believe this last stage is just the result of tradition. This is what I like to call mom and pop religion. It only takes a person one moment to step back and look at their religious beliefs objectively to see how ignorant and silly the whole thing is. A mythical god-man healing the sick and raising the dead and ultimately defeating death and ascending up into the heavens sounds more like fairy tales and myths to me. When will the world wake up? I personally don't think that that will ever happen. As long as there are gullible people out there willing to place faith in false hopes and fancies of primitive man there will always be a church to fill that need.
